Therapies on offer

We offer a wide range of therapies designed to meet your needs. Below is some basic information about the main therapies we find useful for individuals, please do not hesitate to contact us for further information about any of these or other therapies.

Assessments

All therapies will begin with an initial assessment which is a chance to discover your current needs, goals and consider what therapy may be useful for you. This typically takes one or two hour sessions, depending on your needs. This assessment will involve finding out about you, talking about your difficulties and we may also use standardised questionnaires to gather information.

Some individuals may want to understand their current psychological problems in a more psychological way and in these cases may wish to attend for an assessment even if not planning on further therapy. Such an assessment can help to provide a psychological formulation and framework for difficulties.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is one of the most widely used psychological therapies and can be helpful for a number of difficulties including depression, anxiety and trauma among others. CBT is a talking therapy that focuses on how our thoughts and beliefs impact on our feelings and behaviour. CBT seeks to teach new coping skills for dealing with things differently.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

EMDR is a highly recommended therapy in the treatment of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and other trauma-related difficulties. The therapy involves processing traumatic memories and shows great reductions in psychological distress, physical arousal and negative beliefs.

Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT)

CAT is a way of helping individuals to explore how they think, feel and act, and exploring the relationships and past events that may underlie these (from childhood or early like). The therapy explores how we relate to ourselves and others, looking at patterns that we can find ourselves in that may no longer be helpful.

Mindfulness based CBT

Mindfulness works for individuals who are struggling with low mood and depression, along with other difficulties. It suggests that emotional problems arise when we have a tendency to overthink, ruminate or worry too much about things, coupled with a tendency to avoid, suppress or push away other things. Mindfulness allows you to cultivate a radically different way of working with your mind.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a very useful therapy for helping people manage overwhelming emotions, by teaching you new skills. There are four key components to DBT, which are distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness and mindfulness.

We have leaflets available about all of the above therapies, including what to expect in sessions. If you would like further information then please do not hesitate to contact us.
